In Loving Memory of Father Eberhard Neugebauer C.Ss.R.

On October 31, 2024, Father Eberhard Neugebauer C.Ss.R. passed away at the age of 85 in Bous, Germany. Born on August 18, 1939, he entered the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redemptorists) early in life, making his first profession in 1964 and being ordained a priest on August 18, 1969. His life was marked by deep faith and a quiet yet powerful dedication to the people he served.

For many years, Father Eberhard ministered at Heiligenborn Monastery, where, from 1984 onward, he devoted himself especially to guiding others in Heart Prayer. With patience, devotion, and a profound understanding of spiritual needs, he led many on this path of silent prayer and inner reflection. To countless people, he became a steady presence, a companion on their journey of faith, whose gentle and compassionate nature offered them strength and comfort.

One verse that captures his path might be “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7). His life was shaped by this trust in God’s presence, making him a compassionate spiritual guide whose patience and kindness touched hearts profoundly.

The words from the Psalms, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18), also reflect his mission: his deep connection to God and his sincere interest in those who came to him for guidance and comfort. His life and ministry remain alive in the hearts of those who met him on their own spiritual journeys.

In his later years, even after the closing of Heiligenborn Monastery, Father Eberhard remained closely connected to the community. Just last year, he celebrated a special Mass with Auxiliary Bishop Franz Josef Gebert, attended by many who had found hope and solace through his work.

Now, after a life of dedicated service, he enters eternal rest. To remember him, the words from the Book of Isaiah capture his quiet strength and dedication to the good:

“The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad; the desert shall rejoice and blossom.” (Isaiah 35:1).

May he rest in the presence of the One he served his entire life, and may his legacy continue in the hearts he guided on their journey.
