On the 1st of August, a joyful celebration of the feast of Saint Alphonsus Liguori, founder of the Redemptorists, doctor of the church and the passionate preacher of God’s crazy love, was celebrated in the Redemptorist Church of St Alphonsus in Limerick, Ireland. The Holy Mass was presided over by the Superior General, Fr. Rogerio Gomes.
The Redemptorist family united in faith, in hope and in the spirit of St. Alphonsus, witnessed a significant joyful moment in the Redemptorist history. The inauguration of the Redemptorist Federation of North-West Europe – a new chapter of collaboration in shared mission. This federation brings together four provinces: the province of Dublin, the province of London, the province of St. Clement, and the province of Vienna-Munich. Consolidating this new federation today were the provincial superiors of these provinces, who together reaffirmed the Redemptorist commitment to preach the gospel ever new in the footsteps of Alphonsus.
Fr. Rogerio Gomes, the Superior General spoke of the Federation, “It is deeply meaningful that we mark our Founder’s feast with two significant events: the inauguration of the Federation of the Redemptorist Provinces of London, Dublin, Vienna-Munich, and St Clement; and the vibrant presence of young people, the hope of the Redemptorist mission, who are actively engaged in this process…” further he said, “In this light, the Federation inaugurated today is not merely a canonical structure; it must be a prophetic sign of communion and shared mission, of missionary readiness, of continuity in the process of restructuring for the sake of the mission and ultimately, of becoming a new Province.”

The Superior General entrusted this new federation to the loving care of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, our Saints, the Blessed, and the Martyrs. May they accompany, guide and strengthen our unity, and inspire us with unwavering trust in God’s plan.
Therefore, this important step marks a deepening of the federation’s shared mission, charism, and fraternal collaboration in service of the Gospel across these provinces. Together as a Redemptorist family, we seek to respond more faithfully and creatively to the call of our Redeemer in today’s world.
