On February 12, 2025, Brother Servaes van Nuland C.Ss.R. passed away at the age of 94 in Boxmeer, Netherlands. Born on April 11, 1930, he joined the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redemptorists) and made his first profession on March 17, 1952. His life was marked by deep commitment to society, the Catholic Church, and his community.
Brother Servaes dedicated his long life to serving others as a Redemptorist brother. His decades of devotion to the congregation were characterized by humility, dedication, a strong sense of justice, openness to new ideas, and a lived spirituality. Known for his warm-hearted nature and tireless efforts, he was always there when his fellow brothers or others needed help.
At the same time, he suffered from the coldness he sometimes perceived in the Church and community and sought to counter it with compassion and action.
A Bible verse that aptly describes his work reads:
“Serve one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God, each with the gift he has received.” (1 Peter 4:10)
This passage reflects Brother Servaes’ dedication to religious life and his ability to share and multiply God’s gifts within the community.
